Dr Chuchengfa Gogoi

Assistant Professor | Political Science

Dr. Chuchengfa Gogoi serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science, North Lakhimpur University. He has completed his Post-graduation from the Department of Political Science, Gauhati University, and earned his PhD at Gauhati University for his doctoral research titled 'Contested Ethnicity in a Multicultural Society: A Case of Karbi Anglong, Assam. He was a recipient of the prestigious Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) awarded by the University Grants Commission (UGC). His primary research interests lie at the intersection of legal pluralism, traditional self-governing institutions, identity politics, and disaster governance, with a particular focus on flood displacement and rights-based frameworks in Northeast India.

Dr. Gogoi actively contributes to academic discourse through peer-reviewed publications, supervisory roles for doctoral scholars, and engagement with interdisciplinary research forums. His public profile includes participating as a speaker in national academic seminars, designing community-orientated departmental initiatives, and integrating modern pedagogical frameworks such as behavioral science and policy simulation workshops into higher education. Dedicated to bridging rigorous empirical research with community needs, he remains actively involved in institutional development and regional policy dialogue.

Dr. Gogoi has published research in reputed national and international journals, including AlterNative: An International Journal of Indigenous Peoples, Journal of Sikh Formations, Contemporary Voice of Dalit, Indian Journal of Public Administration, and the Journal of Social and Political Sciences etc. His recent research examines Tai-Ahom ethnic resurgence and the demand for Scheduled Tribe status, the political rise of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Bodoland Territorial Region, Sikh migration and identity in Assam, and the role of traditional governance institutions in sustainable development.

He has undertaken Minor Research Projects on Tai Khamti traditional governance and local institutions for women’s empowerment sponsored by the UGC-NERO and UNICEF. His ongoing research engagements focus on ethnicity, indigenous institutions, customary law, identity movements, electoral politics, and governance in Northeast India.
