Department of Botany Est. 1966

The Department of Botany was established in 1966 to offer Botany as an elective subject in the Science faculty of North Lakhimpur College, Assam. In its initial phase, the department ran from a single room with a small laboratory in the college’s Arts Building. With the growing number of students and increasing laboratory requirements, it moved permanently to its present building in September 1996.

The Core course in Botany began in 1979, and its students have since compiled an outstanding academic record under Dibrugarh University.

Students of the department topped Botany (Major) in the B.Sc. Final Examination nine times up to 2011, and in 2009 a student of the department was awarded the Best Science Graduate of Dibrugarh University.
