Department of English Est. 1952

The Department of English began as a core department with the establishment of the college in 1952. Major (Honours) in English was introduced soon after the college moved to its present campus in 1966. Since its inception, the department has advanced steadily, introducing the M.A. in English from the 2021–22 session and the Ph.D. programme from the 2022–23 session.

Mission & Vision

Mission
To help students acquire the ability to examine, evaluate, appreciate and critique the works of the great writers of the world, to draw inspiration from their deeds and wisdom, and to apply these lessons in real-life situations, so that they may transform the world they live in and leave their footprints on the sands of time.
Vision
To create citizens who can speak and write with eloquence and clarity; to motivate students to acquire the soft skills essential for effective communication in their academic, professional and corporate lives; and to instil a spirit of critical enquiry and reasoning that helps them develop a creative perspective on the world.
