Established in 1966, the Department of Physics is one of the leading academic departments of the university, committed to excellence in teaching, research, innovation, and scientific development.

Academic Programmes
The department currently offers a wide spectrum of academic programmes including the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme in Physics (BSc-FYUP) with Major and Minor options, the Five Year Integrated Masters Programme in Physics (Integrated MSc-FYIMP), M.Sc. in Physics, and Ph.D. in Physics.

Academic Activities & Research Culture
The department regularly organizes seminars, workshops, invited lectures, and career counseling programmes aimed at broadening students’ academic perspectives and enhancing professional readiness.
Since 2020, the department has been conducting the distinguished Physics Lecture Series, featuring eminent physicists from reputed institutions across India and abroad.
SPARK Symposium
The department organizes its biennial flagship symposium, SPARK (Symposium in Physics: Advances in Research and Knowledge), which serves as a platform for scientific exchange and dissemination of research. The first two editions were successfully held in 2023 and 2025, while the next edition is scheduled for 2027.
Alumni Association
An active alumni association further strengthens the academic ecosystem of the department. The association has established and continues to maintain a dedicated Departmental Library, providing valuable academic resources and support to students.

Symposium on Physics: Advances in Research and Knowledge (SPARK) 2025
October 31 – November 1, 2025
The Department of Physics, North Lakhimpur University, successfully organized the second edition of its biennial national conference, SPARK 2025, bringing together participants from reputed academic and research institutions across India.
The conference featured keynote lectures, parallel technical sessions, poster presentations, and interdisciplinary discussions covering High Energy Physics, Gravitation, Electronics, Photonics, Nanoscience, Plasma Physics, Astronomy, and Applied Physics.

Symposium on Physics: Advances in Research and Knowledge (SPARK) 2023
October 14, 2023
The inaugural edition of SPARK 2023 marked an important milestone in the academic journey of the Department of Physics. The conference hosted more than 100 participants from institutions across India and covered both theoretical and experimental physics.
The programme included keynote lectures, poster presentations, plenary talks, and parallel technical sessions in diverse research domains.

1st Alumni Meet
April 09, 2023
The Department of Physics successfully organized its first-ever Alumni Meet in 2023, celebrating decades of academic excellence and alumni contributions.
The event strengthened the connection between alumni and the department while contributing significantly to academic enrichment through the establishment of a Departmental Library.

Internship on Scientific Programming and Digital Research Skills
Organized by the Department of Physics, North Lakhimpur University, this four-week hybrid internship programme is designed to provide students with hands-on exposure to scientific programming, data analysis, digital research tools, computational thinking, and modern academic productivity skills.
About the Internship
The Summer Internship Programme has been designed in accordance with UGC and NEP internship guidelines with emphasis on skill development, experiential learning, scientific computing, and research-oriented training.
In the modern digital era, computational literacy and analytical skills have become essential across all academic disciplines. Therefore, the programme is intentionally interdisciplinary and beginner-friendly, allowing students from Science, Humanities, Commerce, Engineering, Social Sciences, and other academic backgrounds to participate comfortably.
The internship combines lectures, hands-on computational training, guided assignments, mini-projects, and presentations to help students develop practical and professional skills relevant to higher education, research, and future careers.
